What Does Garage Door Repair Cost?
Every door is different, so we quote after we've looked. Here's what actually drives the price, and how we make sure you know it before any work starts.
It's the first thing most people want to know, and it's a fair question. The honest answer is that it depends on what's broken, what kind of door you have, and what else is worn. Two doors with the same symptom can need very different repairs.
What we can promise is how it works: we diagnose the whole door, tell you what's wrong, and give you the full price in writing before we touch anything. If you'd rather think it over or compare quotes, that's fine.
What drives the price
Six things that affect the cost
What's broken
A sensor alignment or remote is a small job. A pair of springs, a set of cables or an opener motor is more parts and more time.
Your door's size and weight
Heavier doors, such as double-car, insulated or wood doors, need larger springs and heavier hardware.
Parts quality
Springs come in different cycle ratings. Higher-cycle springs cost more up front and last much longer.
What else is worn
A spring that snapped often takes rollers or a cable with it. We'll point out anything else that's close to failing, and you decide.
Repair versus replace
On an older opener or a badly damaged door, replacement can cost less over time than repeated repairs. We'll show you both.
Urgency
A door stuck open or a car trapped inside goes to the front of the day. We'll always tell you the price before we start.
By repair
What goes into common repairs
Broken spring replacement. The spring size is matched to your door's weight, and most doors need both springs replaced together.
Garage door opener repair. Many problems are a gear, sensor, remote or wall control. A full replacement only makes sense on older units or after a logic board failure.
Garage door cable repair. Cables are replaced in pairs, along with any corroded bottom brackets or worn drums.
Garage door sensor repair. Often an alignment or wiring fix. Sometimes the sensors themselves need replacing.
New garage door installation. Size, material, insulation, windows and style all change the price. We measure and quote in writing.
Common questions
Repair costs, answered
Why does garage door repair cost vary so much?
It varies too much for an average to be useful. A sensor adjustment and a pair of springs on a heavy door are very different jobs. What drives it is the part, your door’s size and weight, the quality of parts and whether anything else is worn. We quote in writing before starting.
Why won't you quote a price over the phone?
Because the same symptom can have very different causes. A door that won't close might be a five-minute sensor fix or a worn opener. We'd rather give you a real number than a guess that changes once we arrive.
Is it cheaper to repair or replace my garage door?
Repair is usually cheaper when the problem is a spring, cable, roller, sensor or opener part. Replacement starts to make sense when the door sections themselves are damaged or repairs keep adding up. We'll give you both options.
Do you charge more for emergency calls?
Urgent calls go to the front of the day, Monday through Saturday. Whatever the job, you get the price before any work begins.
